Fri, Sept 17, 2021 - Home Testing Kits

Dear Parents/Guardian,

We want to make you aware of the availability of home COVID-19 screening tests for children. They are for children under the age of 12 years and are now available in West Prince and Eastern and Southern Kings. The aim of the pilot project is to provide home COVID screening tests to Island families with children, starting in rural PEI, where families have more limited access to COVID-19 testing.

The Lucira Check-It test kits are easy to use and instructions are available at Access PEI sites in Prince County (Access Tignish and Access O'Leary) and Kings County (Access Souris and Access Montague). Given the limited supply of kits, families are asked to take one or two kits at a time.

Parents or guardians should use the test kits when children have symptoms of COVID -19. Positive tests are considered a preliminary positive and must be confirmed with a lab based PCR test. If a child has a preliminary positive result they should self-isolate with their parent or guardian until they are tested at a Health PEI testing clinic. They should continue to self-isolate until they receive the results of the confirmatory lab-based test.

Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.
